2006 Holiday Concert

"Timeless Traditions"

Our program, "Timeless Traditions", focused on the things of Christmas that, year after year, we look forward to with such anticipation and that, year after year warm our hearts with tradition; from decorating, caroling, Santa and gift giving to the Christmas Story and Christmas Pageants. Supporting the traditional music of our program was a "conversation" between a parent and their young adult child while reminiscing over the family Christmas Memory Book. This dialogue was interspersed throughout the concert.

Through grant monies provided by the Enumclaw Arts Commission, we were given the opportunity to include many local performing artists as part of our program as well. Included was a string ensemble with the very beautiful "Nativity Carol" by John Rutter; a violin, cello and keyboard accompaniment which weaves "Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring" and "The First Noel" together in an incredible pairing; a haunting and beautiful flute accompaniment to "What Child is This" and a brass ensemble from the Gateway Community Band joined the chorale on "Hark the Herald Angels Sing".

Our accompanist and vocal coach presented an original composition that included piano, Native American Flute and cello. The audience participated as we took part in the tradition of Christmas Caroling, and an additional treat visited the tradition of Christmas Pageants as the chorale performed "The March of the Christmas Children".
